Feature request - Add a FREE and/or Pay Later payment method
Reported by dleffler | September 26th, 2012 @ 02:07 PM | in 2.2.0release-candidate (closed)
Might be nice to have a FREE payment (billingcalculator) for sites which simply want to take advantage of NO COST event registration or materials requests (orders).
I, myself could use this to track people signing up for an event and managing them. We also produce free CD's on request.
E.g., a non-profit organization site which accepts donations (PayPal Express?), registers people for special events, and offers items/materials at no cost.

Perhaps this MIGHT be solved by a better checkout with $Zero cost totals?

This is probably best implemented by checking for grand_total and not displaying a billing calculator, only a simple button to proceed?

OK, we definitely need CODE to bypass the payment portion of checkout for $Zero grand totals (PayPal chokes on no cost submissions). Also many event registrations can be 'paid at the door' and while we can finesse it with a 'cash' billing calculator, it still requires the customer to enter a number to proceed.

Actually the FREE and PAY LATER options should NOT be billing calculators, but possibly code or options on the product...or perhaps tied to the 'in store pickup' shipping option?

After some implementation glitches...I'll have to renege on that last comment, they will have to be billing calculators or variations of the existing cash calculator. BECAUSE we go back to the billing calculator on many occasions to gather info to place in the invoice, etc...

Generally, the 'pay later' billing calculator is implemented at this point, but could use some tweaking...such as maybe becoming the 'default' billing calculator.
We've also gotten the cash & pay later billing calculators to work better with a $0 grand total checkout
