Group User Information not updating

When I updated to the new version of exponent, I went through the user access to make sure everything was correct. Removed old users access, that kind of thing. I also made sure the current users belonged to the group account for access to the site. The group user settings were off for the pages but the users were still part of the group. I set each of the pages to be part of the group again. However, when I log in as a regular user (i.e. non-administrator), I cannot see the tab pages. All that is showing is the home page. When I log in as administrator, everything is there. Am I missing a step for my users to be able to see the pages?

    • Tag set to groups, permissions

    I want to confirm you are at v2.2.3 patch #4...what may be occurring is the NEW privacy feature which is intended to block access to 'private' pages being added to search engines and going to them directly via url...it is sometimes too aggressive.

    The quickest fix for this (if this is the issue) is to turn OFF the privacy feature on the site configuration, security tab.

    When initially implemented...this feature defaulted to ON, but now the default setting is OFF. There is an upgrade script which attempts to alleviate the database issues by cleaning up the sectionref table, but can't be guaranteed in every scenario.

    Thank you for the information. I will try that. I cannot apply the patch because it tends to crash my site. Not sure why this is happening. When I apply the patch, all I get are links - no web pages. It's very weird so I haven't applied it yet.

    Later that same day...
    I have tried the above but it does not change anything. Am I supposed to set it so that the whole website is open to "World - Read only" because I definitely do not want that.

    So there are two problems - one is the tabs not showing and two is the patch not updating properly.

    What version of Exponent are you running?

    How are you attempting to 'apply' the patch? Install Extension with the 'patch' checked?

    The default file and directory permissions only applies when uploading files (install extensions) or making new directories. The defaults of File = World readable/writable and Directory = Group readable/writeable usually seem to work in most cases.

    Lastly, when you say the 'tabs are not showing', are you referring to the site menu of pages?

    Also, I tried the settings for the defaults you suggested (The defaults of File = World readable/writable and Directory = Group readable/writeable) but it did not work

    I could probably give you some better advice if you'd answer the other questions in the prev post such as version (you can get this from the exponent menu and please include the php version number) and how you are trying to install the patch.

    I really already answered those questions. I don't know where they went???

    Exponent version 2.1.0, Release date November 23, 2012, PHP version 5.2.17

      I upload it to my host. I didn't know there was an install extension. Where do I find that? There was one for the version 2.1.0 so this was easy to install but not the patch.

    Ok, that info helps me...v2.1.0 is quite old at this point. I'm curious when you say you 'updated to a new version of exponent since we are at v2.2.3 as of Thanksgiving 2013. Was this a migration from a much older version (0.9x)?

    • there are NO patches available for v2.1.0, so installing any patch file would probably break the system (since it's a patch for another version). We only issue(d) a patch when the next version release wasn't imminent.
    • any of the more recent full version packages (2.1.1, 2.1.2, 2.1.3, 2.1.4, 2.2.0, 2.2.1, 2.2.2, or 2.2.3) could be extracted into the main folder. Some of those have patches and some do not. Again a 'patch' file only contains changed files for the version it is patching.
    • v2.1.0 does NOT include the privacy feature, so disregard that info (above)

    Having said that, what is your desired outcome? Is it that you only want guests and lower level users to see the single page and the remaining pages can only be viewed by 'special' users assigned to a user group?
