File Manager not working

Just been in to do some editing. Since last time File Manager is not working. The window opens greyed out with an error popup:

Invalid backend response
Data is not JSON

I suspect this may be another UK2 introduced error. I tried re-uploading all the files to the ckeditor folder, didn't help.

I have a screenshot but it says my upload quota has been reached so I can't upload to you.

    That hasn't made any difference. PHP is at 7.4 and will go to 8.1 October 13. At the same time MySQL goes from 10.3 to 10.5.

    OK thanks, I understand. Sorry I couldn't continue last night, it was getting a bit late for me!

    I've looked at the control panel error logs, there is nothing there of relevance, only errors for an earlier test domain name that somehow seems to still attract attention in the early hours of the morning. Similarly the logs I can FTP download don't look like there are any obvious anomalies, the SSL log stops early afternoon even though I was in there in the afternoon. I think all it's showing is a normal sequence of events loading a page. I'll append the last few lines at the end of this message for info.

    To expand on my suspicion that this is UK2 induced - I was receiving an error email every night from the cron job that runs once in the early hours. Their first fix was the one that stopped anyone logging in. They fixed this after over 24 hours and the site was fully operational. I reported back that I was still getting the cron error but to please investigate and not do anything without discussing first. However they went ahead and did something and the cron error has disappeared. At the same time we now have this File Manager problem arising.

    UK2 support response times is patchy, I am going to update the ticket and then go for a live chat. I there are any pointers you can give me as to why this problem is happening that would really help. Is there anything you think you can do to circumvent the problem?

    UK2 seem to have fixed the problem, but we don't know why! Here's what they said:

    I have just created an empty php.ini file in the /home/britisht/public_html/framework/modules/file/connector and FileManages suddenly started to working again. Renaming this file result, that FileManager throws this error again. I'm not sure how and why it works but it working for me now, please see the attachment.
