File Crashes DreamWeaver 8

Reported by peters@slx-online.biz | October 9th, 2014 @ 02:57 PM | in User issues

Here's an interesting one. I just downloaded a full copy of the site after the recent update. When I loaded DreamWeaver 8 to update some CSS, it crashed. After a long process of elimination, deleting the DW configuration folder and copying files back a bit at a time, I have found the guilty file:

external/editors/tinymce/plugins/codemirror/CodeMirror/theme/ambiance.css

Copy attached.

Whilst I don't necessarily need most of the Exponent files, I do like to keep a local copy just in case of a server crash. For now I have removed this file from the tree.

Very minor issue until the next time I do a backup!

Well, the 'codemirror' plugin isn't supposed to be in the package, just used in some custom sites. Likely slipped past my pre-release scrubbing script.

Looks like it crept into 230patch1, 230patch2, & 230patch3, but was corrected on 230patch4 and 231.

If I understand correctly then, it was there in a previous version. When I followed the update procedure by overwriting the complete site, as this was already there it was not deleted? The update procedure doesn't remove these redundant files? If this is true, then I guess the only 'fix' would be to delete the complete site files first before copying the updated package?

I experienced this problem quite a while ago, may well have been that same file but I don't remember. I would have just deleted it from my local machine without thinking it would come back to bite me.

v2.3.0patch1 was released May 9, 2014. Normally we would remove obsolete files during an upgrade, but in this case we didn't know they were in there...and...not sure if there aren't some installations that might actually use the 'codemirror' plugin which allows you to edit source code with syntax highlighting.

You can safely remove these folders

    • /external/editors/tinymce/plugins/codemirror
    • /external/editors/tinymce/plugins/example
    • /external/editors/tinymce/plugins/example_dependency
    • /external/editors/tinymce/plugins/sh4tinymce
