Problems with File Manager in 2.0.8

Reported by theohiobloke | July 3rd, 2012 @ 11:30 PM | in 2.0.8 (closed)

User reports:

Hey John,

I was editing the website, specifically adding files to the file manager, and noticed a couple of strange responses.

For some reason, I could only upload files in chrome, and then I could only browse files that had been uploaded in the file manager in Firefox. Consequently I had to keep changing back and forth between the browsers if I actually wanted to upload a file and then consequently add it to a we page somewhere. Whenever I clicked on browse from Chrome, it would appear to open a page, but that page would not be visible and I could not get to it (I could see that the browser had multiple pages open in my win 7 taskbar). When I hovered over the icon, I would see a blank page and I could not click on it. In Firefox, whenever I tried to use the file manager to upload files, it would not let me hit the button "Select Files." It acted as if there wasn't a link on that button and therefore wouldn't do anything.

I am currently hoping this is an aberration as I had not experienced this behavior before. I will find out on another day I guess. It took me a little while to pinpoint the exact behavior.

    • Tag set to file manager, uploader

    Couple of questions:

    • what was the 'uploading' issue which required you to use chrome? Wouldn't upload when you pressed the 'upload' button, etc..?
    • when you say you could only browse the uploaded files in firefox...in chrome what happened when you clicked the 'back to manager' button in the uploader?
    • what version of chrome are you running, v20?
    • are you running a single monitor? any multi-desktop type software?

You might try opening up the debug console (hit F12, then select the 'console' tab) and then reload the file manager/uploaded to see if any errors are displayed.

    I can't seem to reproduce this behavior using Win7Pro x64 and chrome v20, firefox v13.01, or ie9.

Actually I just reproduced the invisible file manager window issue in Chrome when bringing it up inside the wysiwyg editor. A win7 work-around/hack for now is to hover the mouse over the chrome icon in the taskbar, then right-click on the invisible window and select 'maximize'

This is a ckeditor/chrome bug found at this url: http://dev.ckeditor.com/ticket/9069

fwiw, I may write a custom function to be able to use the currently hidden 'upload' tab on the ckeditor insert image, etc... dialog that would allow you to select a file to upload from that dialog and upload it without using the filemanager/uploader.
