2.0.4 File Manager will not allow file uploads whilst maintainence mode is switched on

1) Turn maintainence mode on.
[Exponent] menu -> [Configuration] -> [Configure
Website] Select [Maintainence] tab.
Check the 'Place Site in Maintainence mode' box.
2) Upload a file, when you go back to the file manager, it will
not have uploaded.
[File] menu -> Upload new files Click
select files. Select a random file. Click [Open].
Click [Upload Files].
Wait for the files to upload. They will upload, the progress bar
will show 100% and go green.
3) Go back to the File Manager, and the uploaded file will not be there
I have checked that files upload as expected when maintainence mode is turned off. It would appear that they are not being uploaded to the 'files' directory as normal files are.
